Glad to be in the back yard

Tasha always seems happy to get back home after one of our walks around the vineyard. She stands at the back gate and waits impatiently to be let back in.

Here's a view of the vegetable garden as I saw it yesterday morning.

It won't be long before we start getting ripe tomatoes. Walt picked some green beans day before yesterday, and we've been getting zucchini (courgettes) for a week or two now.

Yesterday I mentioned that we have grape vines in our back yard. Here they are. They're white table grapes of some kind, but the vines are shaded by two big apple trees, so they don't produce many bunches of grapes.

We do enjoy the leaves, though, at this time of year. It's unusual for us to make stuffed grapevine leaves twice in the same year, but that's what happened in 2017.

  2. Tasha seems to be mostly black with touches of white and fawn. Innit?

    1. That's right, she's mostly black, with white and tan markings.

  3. Our son is building a raised veggie garden for Sue on Wednesday while we are away. It will be interesting to trade notes on the different varieties and climates of our two regions.

    1. I don't know what your soil is like, but raised beds are a really good idea. We had them in one place where we lived in California — Walt built them. They would have been a good thing here, but we didn't build them because we didn't realize how much clay and flint there is in the soil. It's heavy and doesn't drain all that well. Anyway, this summer is so dry...

  4. Maybe the vineyard is still a bit too overwhelming for a tiny pooch like Tasha ;)

    1. I don't think that's true. Tasha loves running up and down the rows of vines and flushing birds out. A couple of days ago she flushed out a pheasant!

    2. My experience with pups that age is there are very few things that overwhelm them lol ... Our collies were always wandering off .. good thing I lived in North Carolina in those days .. everyone knew who those dogs belonged to :)
she is growing so fast .. and she is gorgeous .. fully grown she will be a show stopper !

  5. I recognize Tasha's "let me in" look- it's classic and the same one our dogs had. Our Lucy always was the first one home. The tomatoes look perfect as does your garden. Summer is so fine.

    Those tomatoes look good!
