100+

More than 100 people signed the guest register for the open house event yesterday to celebrate my mother's life. I took my camera, but I was far too busy to take any photos. I saw and talked to people there that I hadn't seen in 40 or 50 years — many of them of my generation, many of my mother's. It was much too exciting, moving, and rewarding for me to be able to write about it so soon. I have two days left here to get ready to go back to France on Tuesday.

  2. How gratifying, Ken. You and your sister must be exhausted. Rest up before you have to travel again. Get yourself some Airborne and take it before you get on the plane. I have found that it really does work to stop a cold progressing from the early stages or to prevent your catching one in the first place. It was originally formulated by a school teacher. Try it, you'll like it. And no harm in exceeding the recommended dosage. There are a lot of bad germs out there these days.

  3. I would have trouble sleeping after all the memories returning from so long ago. I'm so glad that I got to know your mother and sister a little bit. Rest up and carry on.

  4. I agree with Sheila about Airborne -- it is meant to boost your immune system to ward off germs, but I have also taken it after a cold starts, and found it to shorten the span and severity. It comes as an effervescent tablet that you put into a glass of water, like Alka Seltzer, or aspirin in France. Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and Target seem to all have a less-expensive generic version, too. I find it to be very effective... I think it also gives me a little extra boost of energy.

  5. Sounds as though your mother was very much loved in the community. I read in her obituary that she had worked at Dee Gee's and Belks. I would like to think that our paths have met in the past. I loved to shop at both stores. I know it was a sad homecoming on this trip. Hope you have an uneventful trip back to France. Take care.
